Today in 1301 (three times), I discussed the quote for the Explanatory Quote essay we wrote today. It was a hard day.
The Quote: Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are. -Benjamin Franklin
When I was reviewing the lesson for this week, the only things that kept popping into my head as I thought about this quote was the Botham Jean case. It was heavy in my spirit to discuss this with the class as an example of the quote. I couldn't get it out of my spirit. It was hard.
------ ------
It had me in tears, amongst other emotions in the front of my students. I ain't even like that. I don't like discussing sensitive topics in my classes. But, if my tear filled discourse inspired one student to think differently about police brutality, then those few minutes of emotion was worth it.
